Skin cancer may develop where you least expect it
Article 1 ImageIf you understand the risks of skin cancer, then you would probably notice a suspicious new lesion or rapidly changing mole on your arm right away. Would you notice if it were on your scalp, between your toes, under a fingernail, or on your genitals?

One of the biggest mistakes in skin cancer awareness is inattention to one’s own body. Most of us rarely think about our feet. We might forget to use sunscreen when wearing sandals, and fail to notice usual spots. The same is true of the scalp. Unless you wear a hat, it is exposed to UV rays. Additionally, even though UV rays are the leading cause of skin cancer, it can develop in areas that receive little to no sun exposure.

Don’t take chances:
  • When you do skin self-checks, examine every part of your body
  • Use a mirror or ask someone to help check areas such as your scalp
  • Familiarize yourself with the moles and other marks on your body, so you will know when something changes
  • See your dermatologist for screening at least once a year
A beautiful anniversary: 15 years of Botox
Article 2 ImageOh, how time flies. It seems like only yesterday that the world was introduced to the wonders of Botox. A first of its kind treatment, the product offered a safe, simple solution that long-plagued mature men and women: the dreaded frown lines and crow’s feet. Although Botox continues to amaze patients, the formula is hardly new anymore. This year marks the 15th anniversary of its introduction.

A groundbreaking development in aesthetic medicine, Botox quite literally changed the face of modern society. It ushered in a new era of minimally invasive, highly effective anti-aging treatments. Suddenly, wrinkles were optional – and so was surgery.

The trend shows no signs of slowing, with an ever-increasing variety of nonsurgical cosmetic solutions, including injectables, light therapy, fat melting, and more. America, along with the rest of the world, fell in love with looking younger, and we have more ways than ever to accomplish that goal.

Our facial expressions are controlled by the muscles underlying facial tissues. Though these muscles are necessary for smiling, laughing, and speaking, the constant use that they get makes them toned and taut. Where this might sound good on other parts of the body, overworked facial muscles are one cause of early wrinkling.

BOTOX® is a safe and effective, FDA-approved cosmetic solution to fine lines and wrinkles. Men and women who have developed these lines that become more pronounced with expressions can find their appearance dramatically improved through the elimination of vertical creases between the brows, crow's feet, or horizontal lines across the forehead.

Article 3 ImageSmiling, laughing, and frowning all require you to contract the muscles in your face. Over time, these contractions can cause wrinkles and furrows in the skin, causing you to look older, angry, and tired. Botox treatments from the Center for Dermatology and Cosmetic Laser Surgery in Flower Mound turn back the hands of time by getting rid of unwanted lines and wrinkles, leaving you with a refreshed, more youthful appearance.

Botox is a non-surgical procedure that improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. Botox is effective in treating crow’s feet, creases in the forehead, wrinkling between the eyebrows, frown lines, and thick bands in the neck. Botox can enhance facial appearance quickly. There is no down-time and the results typically last three to four months.

Patient Testimonial
5 Star Image
"Dr. Selkin for my family has been the ideal combination of an academic dermatologist in a private practice setting. We have seen many a derm in many states and he turned my daughter's severe eczema around and this was life changing for her at a critical age! He is extremely careful and always aware and on top of lab values and remembers everything. Even though I find him to be one of the busiest derms in the area, i have by far found him to be the most accomodating and always with a good attitude once we were added on same day at 430 on a Friday -- and he stayed very late to help her."
