Can healthier eating reduce the risk of adult acne?
Although acne is most common in teens, it affects up to 40 percent of adults. Women are most susceptible, due to hormone fluctuations associated with the menstrual cycle. In a recent study, Italian researchers examined other factors that may affect adult women’s risk of acne.

The rate of adult acne was lower among women who ate fish, fruits, and vegetables at least four days a week. Researchers theorize that these foods may lower the risk of acne. However, it is also possible that women who rarely ate these foods were more likely to consume unhealthy foods that increase their risk. Although the study did not definitively establish a cause and effect, the finding support the importance of a healthy diet for healthy skin.
