Pediatric Dermatology

Children have specific needs

Should your child develop a skin condition, you want to feel confident that the most suitable treatment can be obtained. Center for Dermatology and Cosmetic Laser Surgery sees children as their own unique persons, not as pint-sized adults. Your child, if facing eczema, warts, a birthmark, psoriasis, acne, or any other condition affecting the skin, requires personalized care. Children can also develop specific conditions affecting them differently than they would an adult. Trained to recognize these differences, our physicians and staff are able to promote healthy skin in patients of all ages.

Pediatric dermatology is an important part of our practice, and we provide care in a relaxing, fun environment so your child will feel most comfortable. At the same time, we listen to parents’ concerns for their children, and answer questions in detail so all treatment options are clearly understood.

We have a special children’s area in our reception area, and a treasure chest for children to choose something from on the way out. We also have special new technologies we use to decrease the pain for any needed procedures.

With our specialized providers, your child may receive care that includes services such as:

  • Prompt, accurate diagnosis of diverse conditions affecting the skin, such as eczema, hives, psoriasis, hemangioma, or hereditary disorders.
  • Precise medical treatment of skin conditions such as warts or birthmarks.
  • Skin biopsies if and when necessary, using specialized techniques to distract and decrease pain.

Children do not have the same ability as adults to communicate what may be causing physical irritation. We do not expect them to be able to answer all questions to help us better understand their needs. We understand that an uncomfortable child may not always easily tolerate visiting the doctor. We treat each patient based on his or her age to make him or her as comfortable as possible. We have an extensive array of educational handouts we have developed for many pediatric skin conditions, and provide information on national support groups when applicable.

Children who live with chronic skin conditions may suffer emotionally, and develop lower self-esteem because of their appearance. Treating childhood skin conditions quickly and effectively not only benefits your child’s skin, but also his or her entire psychological well-being.

Center for Dermatology and Cosmetic Laser Surgery is here to listen to your concerns and goals for your child’s skin, and to help you achieve optimal results from personalized treatment.
