Physician Assistants, or PA’s, are healthcare professionals licensed to practice medicine as directed by a supervising physician. These professionals are trained similarly to physicians, and often attend many of the same medical classes throughout training, with the primary difference being time spent in formal training, such as residency and internship.
The term PA-C stands for Physician Assistant-Certified. These members of our team have passed a rigorous certification process and testing by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Certification is maintained through continuing education and recertification that takes place every six years.
PA’s practice a wide range of services, both medical and surgical, that would traditionally be carried out by physicians. These services include physical examination, diagnosis and treatment of illness, order and evaluate lab tests, perform suturing of lacerations, and prescribe necessary medication.
