Dr. Howard Steinman joined U.S. Dermatology Partners in 2018 and sees patients in Carrollton and Plano, Texas. He specializes in treating skin cancer and has performed over 15,000 Mohs surgery cases in his career.
“It is rewarding to guide patients and their families through the often-frightening process of skin cancer surgery in a reassuring and caring manner,” says Dr. Steinman. “As a cancer survivor, I know how important it is for every patient to have an informed, safe and comfortable surgical experience.”
Dr. Steinman graduated magna cum laude from Pomona College in Claremont, California and earned his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He performed his dermatology residency at the University of California at San Diego and as the Overseas Registrar at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, U.K. He then completed a one-year fellowship in Mohs surgery and dermatological surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
After practicing and teaching in San Diego for over 25 years, he moved to Texas in 2009 to serve as Director of Mohs Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery Scott & White Clinic in Temple, Texas. He moved to the Dallas area in 2012.
Dr. Steinman is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery and a founder and Fellow of the American Society for Mohs Surgery. He has served as an officer, director and president of several local and national dermatology associations. He has co-authored two Mohs surgery textbooks, twelve textbook chapters and over 35 peer-reviewed journal articles. A list of his peer-reviewed journal articles may be found HERE.
He is passionate about mentoring and teaching medical students, residents and practicing dermatologists. He has served on the medical school faculties of the University of London, University of Illinois, Chicago, University of California, San Diego, Texas A&M, and Campbell University. In 1995, he established and co-directs an annual physician course in Mohs surgery and frequently is asked to give talks to Mohs surgeons and dermatologists.
Dr. Steinman enjoys travel, playing the clarinet, reading science and history, and spending time with his wife and family, including his two granddaughters.
