If your eyes are telling a story that isn’t authentic to you, Dr. Gilbert Selkin can transform them with a blepharoplasty procedure.
The blepharoplasty procedure is intended for the correction of droopy, puffy eyelids. In some instances, skin becomes so loose and saggy that it partially covers the eyes and vision is affected. During this surgical procedure, tiny incisions are made in an area that is hidden in the natural contours of the eyelid such as in the lash line or fold. Excess fat or skin is removed and sutures placed, leaving a tighter, smoother appearance. In some cases, blepharoplasty is combined with laser treatment, fillers, or BOTOX® injections for optimal results. These additional treatments may further smooth skin and decrease lines around the eyes.
Typically, only minimal discomfort is associated with a blepharoplasty.
Recovering from treatment
Blepharoplasty is performed after the application of local anesthetic. Most often, only mild discomfort is experienced following this procedure. Your doctor will provide specific instructions for post-operative recovery. It is important to follow all instructions carefully for optimal results. After treatment, bruising or swelling is common, decreasing gradually over the course of a few weeks.
Removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelid in an upper blepharoplasty is usually done for improved appearance, although there are some people who undergo this procedure because skin has descended downward to the point impairing vision. Upper blepharoplasty involves the removal of loose skin as well as the appropriate amount of fatty tissue. Suitable for both men and women, an upper blepharoplasty offers dramatic revitalizing results with minimal recovery time.
For those who are aged by extreme puffiness on the lower eyelids, the lower blepharoplasty brings a return to a more youthful appearance. In this procedure, underlying fatty tissue may be removed or rearranged, and surface skin treated for a smoother texture. Lower blepharoplasty can create a more youthful, rested appearance without affecting the natural contours of the eyelid. This procedure may be performed making incisions inside the lower lid, where no scar will be seen, or through incisions made in the natural creases on the lower lid.
If, when you look at yourself in the mirror, you feel as though you look tired, this procedure should be strongly considered. If your eyes seem to have gotten smaller with age, or bulges or bags have formed around the eyes, or if the skin on your upper eyelids is droopy and hanging over the natural crease, then we encourage you to take action. Contact Center for Dermatology to schedule your consultation with Dr. Gilbert Selkin, and you can discover your path toward a more youthful, vibrant image.
Who is a good candidate for blepharoplasty near Plano?
Blepharoplasty is not popular only in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, but all across the nation. In fact, this eyelid surgery is the most common among men and women over the age of 35.
The skin that surrounds the eyes is quite thin. This makes it more likely to show signs of sun damage and aging, lack of elasticity and tone. This delicate skin may become loose after years of rubbing eyes, or washing the face or even applying and removing makeup. Those who are physically and mentally healthy, and have realistic expectations of results, are fine candidates for eyelid surgery in our Plano area facility. Though many patients who seek this treatment are 35 and older, younger patients with a family history of droopy eyelids may also successfully receive treatment.
